Saturday 17th October 2026 | Yeovil Rugby Club Match Report

It was another action-packed Saturday for Yeovil Rugby Club's senior men, with the First XV producing an outstanding performance on the road and the Barbarians showing plenty of determination and promise in front of their home supporters.

With training numbers continuing to grow, new players making their debuts and competition for places increasing, there is a real buzz around the men's section at Yeovil.

And while the two sides experienced different results, there is plenty to be excited about as the season gathers momentum.

FIRST XV | BLANDFORD 0–73 YEOVIL

An emphatic away victory and a defensive masterclass!

What a performance from Yeovil's First XV!

Travelling to Blandford on Saturday, the lads delivered one of their most convincing performances of the season, running out 73–0 winners in a dominant display of attacking rugby and outstanding defence.

Following their impressive 57–21 victory away to Weymouth & Portland the previous weekend, Yeovil arrived at Blandford full of confidence and determined to continue their excellent run of form.

And they certainly delivered!

Scoring 73 points away from home is an achievement in itself, but perhaps even more impressive was the determination of the Yeovil defence.

Blandford were unable to register a single point.

Every time the hosts looked to build an attack, Yeovil's defensive line stood firm. The commitment, communication and work rate across the squad ensured that the opposition had no opportunity to establish themselves on the scoreboard.

It was a complete team performance, with the forwards providing a strong platform and the backs making the most of their attacking opportunities.

Try scorers and points on the board

Once again, several familiar names were making their presence felt on the scoresheet.

🏉 Yeovil try scorers:

  • Harry McHugh

  • Sam Bryant

  • Tom Lancaster

  • Alfie Oke

  • Sam Lyes

  • Olly Seton

🎯 Conversions: Harry Froude

The attacking talent throughout this squad is becoming increasingly apparent, with players across the pitch contributing to Yeovil's growing points tally.

And two names in particular are starting to stand out!

Harry McHugh and Sam Bryant continue to feature among Yeovil's attacking threats, and it is already looking as though the race to become the club's leading points scorer could be a close one this season.

Both have started the campaign in tremendous form, and with plenty of rugby still to play, it will be interesting to see who finishes on top!

Of course, with Tom Lancaster, Alfie Oke, Sam Lyes and Olly Seton also getting themselves on the scoresheet, there is certainly no shortage of competition.

Away from home, but never off their game

One of the most encouraging aspects of Yeovil's season so far has been the squad's mentality.

Playing away from home can bring its own challenges, but this group continues to demonstrate that travelling does little to disrupt their focus or determination.

The performances against Weymouth & Portland and Blandford have produced a remarkable 130 points scored across two consecutive away matches, with just 21 conceded.

That is a fantastic return and a real indication of the attacking confidence and defensive commitment developing within the team.

Credit must go to the players and coaching team for the work being put in week after week.

Next up | Frome II away

There is little time to celebrate before the First XV head back out on the road.

Another away fixture, another opportunity to build on the momentum.

The lads are playing with confidence, the results are coming, and the challenge now is to maintain those high standards.

Keep it going, Yeovil!

BARBARIANS | YEOVIL 7–38 WINCANTON

A difficult result, but plenty to build on for the Barbs!

Back at Church Lane, Yeovil Barbarians welcomed Wincanton for their latest league fixture.

Following their hard-fought 27–22 victory over Morganians the previous weekend, the Barbs were keen to continue their winning form in front of the home crowd.

Unfortunately, Wincanton proved the stronger side on the day, taking a 38–7 victory.

But the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story of a squad that continues to develop, welcome new faces and show tremendous commitment to the club.

Yeovil's points

🏉 Try: Lewis McCarthy
🎯 Conversion: Colin Streeting

Lewis McCarthy got himself on the scoresheet for the Barbarians, with Colin Streeting adding the extras.

Although the result wasn't what Yeovil had hoped for, the squad continued to work hard and compete against their visitors.

Three more players join the Barbarians family!

One of the biggest positives from Saturday was the arrival of three new faces making their Barbarians debuts.

A huge congratulations to:

🐷 Connor Barrow
🐷 James Wilson
🐷 Joe Young

Every debut is something worth celebrating.

Whether a player has years of rugby experience behind them or is only beginning their journey, pulling on the Yeovil shirt and representing the club is a proud moment.

Seeing more players stepping forward to get involved is exactly what grassroots rugby is all about.

A massive well done to all three lads, and welcome to the Barbarians!

Players of the match

Despite the defeat, there were performances deserving of recognition.

💪 Forward of the Match — Ben Lambourne

⚡ Back of the Match — Dan Pennell

Congratulations to both players for their contributions on the day.

Proud of the effort

Barbarians coach Henry Guy was proud of the players and the effort they put into the fixture.

While the result went Wincanton's way, the team showed commitment and determination, and there are positives to take into the next challenge.

The Barbarians are a squad that is growing and developing together. With more players attending training and increased competition for places, the foundations are being laid for an exciting season.

There will inevitably be difficult afternoons along the way, but those are part of building a strong and competitive second team.

The important thing is that the players continue to turn up, put in the work and support one another.

And that is exactly what is happening at Yeovil.

Next up | Weston-super-Mare III at home

The Barbarians have the perfect opportunity to respond this weekend when they return to action at Church Lane.

ONE CLUB, TWO TEAMS AND A GROWING BUZZ AROUND YEOVIL

There is something particularly encouraging happening within the senior men's section this season.

Training numbers are increasing, new players are joining, familiar faces are returning and there is genuine enthusiasm around both squads.

The First XV are producing some fantastic rugby and building momentum with convincing performances.

The Barbarians are developing their own identity, providing opportunities for players to gain experience, make their debuts and enjoy competitive rugby.

Both squads are an important part of the club's future.

A successful rugby club isn't built on the results of one team alone. It's built on players turning up, supporting one another, putting in the effort and wanting to be part of something bigger.

And right now, there is plenty of that happening at Yeovil.

A huge thank you to our coaches, volunteers, travelling supporters and everyone who continues to get behind the lads.

Special thanks to our senior men's principal sponsors Stuart Foster Funeral Services, Jones Building Group and Luna Electrical Services for their continued support.

Two teams. One club. Together We Stand.
