STORM? WHAT STORM? YEOVIL ARE ON A ROLL! 🐷🏉
Saturday 24th October 2026 | Counties 2 Tribute Ale Dorset & Wilts South
Cold. Wet. Windy. Absolutely horrendous.
The sort of weather that makes you question every life decision that led you to standing on a rugby pitch in October.
But apparently nobody told Yeovil First XV that!
Despite the driving rain, howling wind and conditions that were better suited to building an ark, Yeovil travelled to Frome and delivered another outstanding performance, running out 62–5 winners.
And the best bit? We're on a roll, and we're thoroughly enjoying the ride!
TRIES, TRIES AND MORE TRIES!
The scoreboard certainly got a workout, with another impressive attacking display from the black and whites.
🏉 Harry McHugh × 2
🏉 Sam Bryant × 2
🏉 Josh 'Doc' Docherty × 2
🏉 Sam Lyes
🏉 Sean 'Stretch' Houghton
🏉 Tom Lancaster
🏉 James Read
Harry McHugh and Sam Bryant are becoming rather familiar names on the scoresheet, both bagging another brace. At this rate, we'll have to start charging them rent for all the time they're spending over the try line!
Captain Josh 'Doc' Docherty clearly wasn't prepared to be left out either, helping himself to two tries of his own.
And then there was Harry Froude.
The man with the golden boots. Although, given the conditions, perhaps we should call them the black boots, because there wasn't a clean pair of boots left anywhere in Somerset!
Harry handled the kicking duties, adding the extras in conditions that made simply standing upright an achievement.
STRETCH RETURNS. SCORES. GETS BINNED. OBVIOUSLY.
Last week we celebrated the return of club legend Sean 'Stretch' Houghton.
The Northern Monkey who originally came back to training to dip in and out, have a laugh and enjoy a bit of rugby. He threw up during his first session, somehow became one of our most committed coaches and has spent countless Saturdays hollering instructions from the touchline.
Well, this weekend he swapped the coaching duties for his playing boots.
And what a comeback!
One try. One yellow card.
That's Stretch for you. Couldn't just quietly return, score a try and behave himself, could he?
Even better, Joe Brucciani decided to join him in the sin bin at the same time.
Two Yeovil players having a ten-minute break together. Very thoughtful, lads. Team bonding at its finest.
Still, seeing Stretch back out there, doing what he loves, was a brilliant moment for everyone involved.
Club legend status: firmly intact.
Disciplinary record: could do with a polish.
PLAYERS OF THE MATCH
💪 FORWARD OF THE MATCH – ROB 'BORIS' CROSS
Proudly sponsored by Conveygar Lodge.
Rob earned his award with an outstanding defensive performance, putting in more tackles than anyone else on the pitch.
Known affectionately as Boris thanks to his resemblance to Boris Johnson, Rob certainly delivered on his promises this weekend.
Unlike his political lookalike, this Boris actually got stuck in, put in the hard work and delivered results!
No parties, no excuses, just tackles.
And after that performance, there's absolutely no chance we're voting him out!
🏉 BACK OF THE MATCH – JAMES FAYE
A thoroughly deserved award for James, who put in an excellent performance throughout.
Composed, hardworking and making his presence felt across the pitch, James was a real asset to the side.
A fantastic shift and recognition that was absolutely earned. Well played, James!
REGO AND CASPAR – DUMB AND DUMBER, BUT WHAT A PAIR!
Every good rugby team needs a strong combination in the back row.
Yeovil have Callum 'Rego' Regan and Caspar Hodgson.
Individually, we're not entirely convinced there's a functioning brain cell between them.
Together? Absolutely brilliant.
Think Dumb and Dumber, only with rugby boots and a genuine ability to flatten people.
What they might lack in general common sense, they more than make up for in their understanding of each other's game.
The perfect flanking partnership. Two excellent rugby players who somehow become even better when they're alongside each other.
We wouldn't necessarily trust them to navigate home without supervision, but we'd happily trust them on either side of a scrum!
FOUR WINS FROM FIVE – AND THE MOMENTUM KEEPS BUILDING
This wasn't just another win.
To travel away from home, in truly dreadful conditions, and put 62 points on the board says a great deal about the confidence and togetherness growing within this squad.
The forwards worked tirelessly, the backs took their opportunities, and the whole team continued to show the determination and attacking ambition that has characterised recent performances.
Four wins from five league matches.
The tries are coming, the combinations are clicking and, most importantly, the lads are enjoying their rugby.
There's still plenty to work on, of course. Holding onto the ball would be a lovely start, and keeping all 15 players on the pitch at the same time might be worth considering!
But there's a real buzz around this group, and long may it continue.
AND FINALLY, OUR SUPPORTERS... 🖤🤍
A massive thank you to everyone who travelled to Frome to support the lads.
The weather was absolutely vile, and staying home in the warm would have been the sensible option.
But you turned up, stood through the wind and rain, and cheered the boys on regardless.
That support doesn't go unnoticed, and it means a huge amount to the players and coaches.
Thank you also to Frome RFC for hosting us and for the game.
62 points. Another away victory. Four wins from five.
We're on a roll, we're enjoying the ride, and we're not ready to get off just yet!
UP THE PIGS! 🐷🖤🤍
