The Barbs Are Building – And People Are Starting to Take Notice!
Something is happening within Yeovil's senior men's section, and the Barbarians are certainly giving us plenty to talk about!
With training numbers continuing to grow, confidence building and a real buzz around the club, fielding a full second team this weekend has been no struggle at all.
The positive atmosphere is spreading, the numbers are growing fast, and those rumours about the new coaching set-up making a difference? Well, the performances are starting to prove them right!
Last weekend saw the Barbarians travel to Hornets IV and deliver a dominant victory, taking control from the start and producing some fantastic attacking rugby.
Ollie Holloway led the charge with a hat-trick, while tries came from right across the squad. It was a performance that demonstrated the depth, confidence and attacking ability beginning to emerge within this team.
And now they're back at home, looking to do it all again.
New Faces, Growing Commitment and Players Stepping Up
One of the most exciting things about this season is seeing players coming through, returning to the game and putting their hands up to represent Yeovil.
Jack Tate made a brief appearance last weekend, but after getting involved at training this week, he's now firmly on the team sheet and ready to make his mark in the starting XV, wearing number four.
Then there's Alfie Broadhurst, who makes the journey up from Plymouth to represent his home club.
That kind of commitment deserves recognition. Travelling that distance to pull on a Yeovil shirt speaks volumes about the connection players have with this club and their teammates.
Alfie starts at number 10 this weekend, a position where vision, communication and decision-making can make all the difference.
One to Watch – Harry Bartin
Keep your eyes on number seven, Harry Bartin, this weekend.
After making his 1st XV debut last Saturday, Harry returns to the Barbarians starting line-up at openside flanker.
And what a position to make your mark!
The number seven is often one of the hardest-working players on the pitch. First to the breakdown, hunting turnovers, making tackles, supporting attacking phases and generally making life thoroughly unpleasant for the opposition.
It takes fitness, speed, aggression, intelligence and a willingness to get stuck into absolutely everything.
Harry has already shown he's capable of stepping up to 1st XV rugby, and the question now is:
Just how far can this young player's rugby journey take him?
Definitely one to watch.
One Club, One Team – Rocky Returns!
And there's another name on this week's team sheet that we're particularly pleased to see.
Rocky is back with the Barbarians! 🖤🤍
Rocky, who trains with Yeovil's Mixed Ability Rugby team, continues to demonstrate his resilience, enthusiasm and commitment by stepping up to play alongside the senior men's squad.
Seeing him included again says a great deal about the spirit within this Barbarians team.
Different abilities, different experiences, different journeys into rugby – but when they pull on that Yeovil shirt, they're all teammates.
That's what rugby should be about.
Well done, Rocky. We're proud to have you out there representing Yeovil.
The Opposition – Morganians
This weekend Yeovil welcome Morganians to Church Lane.
Morganians have had a difficult start to their league campaign, suffering defeat in their opening fixture before last weekend's game against Tor II was abandoned following a serious spinal injury.
Our thoughts are with the injured player, and everyone at Yeovil Rugby Club wishes them a full and speedy recovery.
With Yeovil currently sitting three league points ahead of Morganians, Saturday presents an opportunity for the Barbarians to strengthen their position and build on last week's emphatic performance.
But league positions don't win rugby matches.
Morganians will undoubtedly be looking to turn their fortunes around, and Yeovil will need to bring the same commitment, discipline and attacking ambition that served them so well against Hornets.
Can the Barbs Make It Two on the Bounce?
The confidence is growing. The numbers are increasing. The coaching is making an impact.
And most importantly, the players are enjoying their rugby.
With Marc Law captaining the side and coaches Henry Guy and Terry Guy guiding the squad, there's every reason to be excited about what this group can achieve.
Now it's time to turn that positive momentum into another home performance.
Can the Barbarians make it back-to-back victories and continue their climb up the league table?
Come down to Church Lane, get behind the boys and find out!
