Yeovil Barbarians 24 – 14 Weston-super-Mare III | Saturday 24th October 2026

Storm Austin may have brought the wind, rain and miserable conditions to Church Lane, but it couldn't stop Yeovil Barbarians from securing a fantastic 24–14 home victory over Weston-super-Mare III.

In a weekend dominated by horrendous weather, the Barbarians showed determination, resilience and plenty of character to come from behind and claim a well-earned win in front of their home supporters.

It was a performance that demonstrated exactly what the Barbarians are about: teamwork, opportunity and a squad willing to dig deep for one another.

A Game That Needed Turning Around

With the weather doing its best to make rugby almost impossible, neither side had an easy afternoon.

Handling was difficult, conditions underfoot were challenging and every opportunity had to be earned.

Weston-super-Mare III proved competitive opposition and, with Yeovil trailing by a try, the Barbarians needed someone to change the momentum.

Step forward 18-year-old Ben Hunt.

Making his senior men's debut after progressing through Yeovil's Age Grade and Colts sections, Ben was introduced from the bench for the final 20 minutes.

And what an introduction!

The youngster scored two tries, swinging the game back in Yeovil's favour and helping the Barbarians secure a 24–14 victory.

Two tries, a senior debut and a Forward of the Match award. Not a bad Saturday afternoon for a player who first joined the club aged just 13!

Ben's performance was a fantastic example of the talent progressing through Yeovil's youth development pathway, and a reminder of why creating opportunities for young players is so important.

Pointer Pulls the Strings

While Ben's impact from the bench grabbed the headlines, there was another standout performance in the Barbarians backline.

Darren Pointer, proudly sponsored by Churchill's Home & Garden Improvements, was named Back of the Match following an excellent display at fly-half.

Barbarians coach Henry Guy was particularly impressed with Darren's decision-making and ability to manage the game in such difficult conditions.

"Game management was on Point(er)! Innovative thinking at fly-half in unkind weather conditions."

With the wind and rain making even the simplest passages of play difficult, Darren's composure and creativity helped Yeovil remain organised and competitive throughout.

It was an intelligent performance that thoroughly deserved recognition.

New Faces, Fresh Energy and a Growing Squad

Saturday's victory was also an opportunity to welcome several players making their first appearances for Yeovil this season.

Connor Edwards, Lewis Wiley, Jack Redden and Alex Voss all joined the Barbarians matchday squad, bringing fresh faces and additional depth to the team.

Seeing players join, return to rugby and become involved in the club is every bit as important as the result itself.

The Barbarians continue to play a vital role within Yeovil Rugby Club, providing competitive senior rugby for players of different ages, abilities and experience levels.

From those making their first appearance to established players supporting the next generation, the squad represents what grassroots rugby should be about.

Under coaches Henry Guy and Terry Guy, with M. Law captaining the side, the Barbarians are continuing to build a squad where players can develop, contribute and enjoy their rugby.

And Saturday's result demonstrated what can happen when that group comes together.

More Than Just a Result

The Barbarians have experienced their share of challenges this season, but performances like Saturday's show the value of perseverance and building a squad with a strong team spirit.

A comeback victory, two excellent Player of the Match performances, several new faces and a homegrown Colt making an unforgettable senior debut.

There was plenty for the coaches, players and supporters to celebrate.

And while the First XV were busy recording an impressive 62–7 victory away at Frome II, the Barbarians ensured it was a winning weekend for both Yeovil senior men's teams.

Two teams. Two victories. One club moving forward together.

Thank You to Our Supporters

A special thank you must go to everyone who braved the atrocious conditions to support the Barbarians at Church Lane.

Standing on the touchline in driving rain and strong winds isn't everyone's idea of a relaxing Saturday afternoon, but the encouragement from our supporters makes a genuine difference to the players.

Thank you also to Weston-super-Mare III for making the journey and providing a competitive afternoon of rugby.

And finally, congratulations to the entire Barbarians squad and coaching team.

Storm Austin may have done its worst, but the Barbs had the final say.
