Yeovil Barbarians v Minehead Barbarians II
Saturday 7th November 2026 | Kick-off 2:30pm | Church Lane, Yeovil
FIRST TEAM POSTPONED? THE BARBS HAVE GOT YOU COVERED!
There might be a change of plans for Yeovil Rugby Club this weekend, but there is certainly no shortage of rugby to look forward to!
With our First XV's away fixture against East Dorset Dockers postponed, the spotlight turns firmly onto our Yeovil Barbarians, who welcome Minehead Barbarians II to Church Lane tomorrow afternoon.
And what an opportunity for our Seconds to put on a performance!
With the First XV unexpectedly enjoying a Saturday off, we're expecting a few familiar faces on the sidelines. The Barbarians regularly turn out to support the Firsts when they aren't playing, so now it's time for the favour to be returned.
First team lads, no sulking in the corner because your game is off. Get yourselves up to Church Lane and get behind the boys!
And to our supporters who had already planned a rugby-filled Saturday travelling to East Dorset, why change those plans completely? The destination might have changed, but the rugby, the atmosphere and the clubhouse are all waiting for you.
THE BARBARIANS – A SQUAD WITH PLENTY TO PROVE
The 2026/27 season has already provided the Barbarians with some memorable moments, tough contests and plenty of determination.
One of the standout results so far was their victory over Hornets IV, a game that saw Holloway grab the headlines with an impressive hat-trick of tries.
Three tries from one player is some achievement, and that performance demonstrated exactly what this Barbarians side is capable of when everything clicks.
The season hasn't been without its challenges, however. A defeat against Wincanton provided another stern test, with Lewis McCarthy among those involved in the action.
But that's the beauty of grassroots rugby. Every fixture presents another opportunity to learn, improve and come back stronger.
For the Barbarians, this season is about much more than the results column. It's about building a squad, developing combinations, giving players opportunities and creating a team that can compete while enjoying their rugby.
And tomorrow presents another chance to show just how far they've come.
PLAYERS TO WATCH – EXPERIENCE, OPPORTUNITY AND PLENTY OF CHARACTER
There's a strong mix of players named in tomorrow's squad, with familiar faces, experienced campaigners and players looking to make their mark.
Darren Pointer – Number 10
Pulling the strings at fly-half tomorrow is Darren Pointer. Wearing the number 10 shirt comes with plenty of responsibility, from organising the attack to making those important decisions under pressure.
With the First XV watching from the sidelines, there might just be a little extra incentive to show everyone what he can do!
Sam Lyes – Number 9
At scrum-half, Sam Lyes will be looking to provide quick ball, control the tempo and keep the Barbarians moving forward.
The partnership between 9 and 10 could prove crucial against Minehead, and these two will have a big part to play in how Yeovil approach the afternoon.
Oli Cordy – Number 12
Another familiar name in the squad is Oli Cordy, who lines up in the centres.
His inclusion gives the Barbarians another option in midfield, bringing experience and an opportunity to make an impact in a different team combination.
Marc Law – Number 11 and Captain
Leading the side on the pitch tomorrow is Marc Law, who takes the captain's responsibility from the wing.
With plenty of encouragement expected from the touchline, Marc will be looking to keep his teammates focused and make sure the Barbarians deliver a performance they can be proud of.
Lewis McCarthy – Number 5
Lewis McCarthy is another player to keep an eye on. Named in the second row, he'll be involved in the physical battles up front, where the hard work often goes unnoticed but makes all the difference.
And with the team sheet marking this as his last game, there's an added reason to make tomorrow a memorable occasion.
Let's give Lewis a performance and a send-off worthy of the occasion!
A SPECIAL SHOUT-OUT TO HENRY AND TERRY GUY
Behind every grassroots rugby team are the people who put in the hours that supporters don't always see.
And for our Barbarians, Henry and Terry Guy deserve a massive thank you.
The pair are leading the squad tomorrow, continuing the work of keeping the Barbarians together, organised and ready to compete.
Managing a second team isn't always straightforward.
There's the challenge of getting enough players available, balancing different levels of experience, bringing people together and making sure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy their rugby.
It takes commitment, patience, plenty of communication and, we're sure, the occasional headache!
But Henry and Terry continue to put their time and energy into this squad, and that dedication deserves recognition.
The Barbarians are an important part of Yeovil Rugby Club. They provide opportunities for players to develop, for experienced players to continue enjoying the game and for members to remain involved in competitive rugby.
Henry and Terry, thank you for everything you do for the Barbs. Tomorrow is your opportunity to show the club what this squad is all about.
Let's hope the boys repay your hard work with a cracking performance!
