Yeovil Women’s 1st XV got their league season off to a superb start on the road, returning from Devon with a 27–20 bonus-point victory over Crediton Ladies.
After a long pre-season, Yeovil travelled to Crediton knowing they would face a tough opening test. What followed was a performance built on determination, relentless defence and a huge amount of teamwork.
Crediton Ladies 20 – 27 Yeovil Women 1st XV
It wasn’t simply the scoreline that made the victory impressive. Injuries tested the depth of the squad and several players were asked to cover unfamiliar positions, but Yeovil adapted and continued to work for one another throughout the game.
When the pressure came, the defence stood firm. When opportunities appeared, Yeovil took them.
Sophie crossed the line twice, Big Dave added another two tries and Jo also got on the scoresheet, with Liv adding the extras from the tee.
Five tries, a valuable bonus point and, most importantly, a first league victory of the season.
Players of the Match
There were strong performances throughout the side, with two players receiving individual recognition.
🏆 Forward of the Match – Lauren McClelland, Loosehead
Lauren produced an excellent performance in the front row and played her part in a determined Yeovil pack. Her contribution across the game earned her the Forward of the Match award and helped provide the platform Yeovil needed to secure the result.
🏆 Back of the Match – Sophie, Scrum-half
Two tries from scrum-half Sophie proved an important part of Yeovil’s attacking performance. Her contribution with ball in hand, combined with her work around the pitch, saw her named Back of the Match.
A Strong Start
Opening games can be difficult, particularly away from home, and Crediton provided exactly the competitive encounter Yeovil expected.
But after months of preparation, the Women showed the resilience and togetherness required to turn that hard work into a result.

It is an excellent way to begin the league campaign and gives the squad something positive to build on as the season develops.
