Yeovil Rugby Club is calling on its members, players, parents and supporters to come together and help secure the future of grassroots rugby by volunteering to maintain our pitches and grounds.

As the cost of running a community sports club continues to rise, Yeovil Rugby Club is taking proactive steps to reduce expenditure while maintaining the facilities that hundreds of players and supporters enjoy throughout the season.

A Generous Boost from STIGA

We are delighted to announce that STIGA has generously donated a lawnmower and two robotic mowers to Yeovil Rugby Club, providing a fantastic opportunity to improve the way we maintain our grounds.

This incredibly generous contribution will help the club reduce its reliance on external contractors and take greater control of its ongoing maintenance costs.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to STIGA for recognising the importance of supporting grassroots sport and investing in our rugby community.

However, while this equipment is a huge step forward, we now need volunteers to help us make the most of it.

Rising Costs Mean We Must Act Now

Like many grassroots sports clubs across the country, Yeovil Rugby Club is facing increasing financial pressures.

Maintaining rugby pitches and surrounding grounds is a significant expense, with contractor bills representing a substantial part of the club's annual running costs.

With costs continuing to rise, the club must look at more sustainable ways of operating.

Every pound saved on grounds maintenance is money that can instead support rugby, improve facilities and help protect the future of our club.

Our responsibility is not just to the teams playing today, but to the generations of players who will follow.

By taking action now, we can ensure Yeovil Rugby Club remains a place where children, young people and adults can enjoy rugby for years to come.

Volunteers Wanted – Can You Spare Some Time?

We are looking to establish a dedicated group of volunteers who can assist with the ongoing upkeep of our facilities.

Areas where help is particularly needed include:

  • Pitch line marking: Helping to paint and maintain the lines on our rugby pitches throughout the season.

  • Grass cutting: Assisting with mowing and general grass maintenance using the equipment now available to the club.

  • Grounds maintenance: Helping to keep our outdoor areas tidy, presentable and ready for rugby.

  • General upkeep: Supporting occasional maintenance tasks to keep the club looking its best.

No previous experience is necessary. We simply need people who are willing to get involved and give a little of their time.

Whether that means an hour each week, a few hours each month or occasional help when available, every contribution will be appreciated.

A Club Built on Community

Yeovil Rugby Club provides rugby opportunities across our Men's, Women's, Mixed Ability, Junior and Mini sections.

Behind every training session, matchday and community event is a considerable amount of work that often goes unnoticed.

From preparing pitches and maintaining facilities to organising fixtures and keeping the clubhouse running, there is much more to operating a rugby club than what happens during 80 minutes on the pitch.

Historically, grassroots rugby has relied on the generosity and commitment of volunteers, and that community spirit is as important today as it has ever been.

We cannot continue to rely on the same small group of individuals to do everything, nor can we afford to outsource every task.

With hundreds of people benefiting from the club, even a small commitment from a greater number of members could make an enormous difference.

Protecting Rugby for Future Generations

Our aim is simple: to ensure Yeovil Rugby Club remains financially sustainable while continuing to provide the best possible rugby experience for everyone involved.

The generous support from STIGA gives us the equipment to make meaningful changes. Now we need the people to help turn that opportunity into long-term savings.

This isn't simply about cutting grass or painting white lines.

It's about protecting our club, supporting our players and making sure rugby continues to thrive in Yeovil.

Get Involved – Your Club Needs You!

We would love to hear from anyone willing to lend a hand.

If you can help with grounds maintenance, pitch marking or general outdoor upkeep, please contact the club and let us know what time you may be able to offer.

You don't need to commit to every weekend. Every little bit of help counts.

A huge thank you once again to STIGA for their outstanding generosity and commitment to supporting our club.

And to our members, players, parents and supporters: this is your opportunity to make a real difference.
