As a follow up to my message at the opening of the season, I wanted to write a short note to update you all.

Over the last  6 weeks we have seen a strong return across all age groups and I, together with the committee, would like to send our thanks to all those that have renewed memberships promptly. I would just urge that all those who have outstanding subscriptions to please complete online as soon as possible. My sincere thanks to all our coaches, volunteers, players and members who have responded so well to the conditions we have had to implement.

I would like to take this opportunity thank Dave Lyes and his team for organising the hugely successful Mini & Youth Tournament held on the 11th October. The feedback from this event has been really positive.

In terms of on-field progress, we will continue to be guided by the RFU and Government Guidelines on our return to the contact game. The latest indications are that this will be January 2021 but we will continue to monitor the situation and be ready to respond as required.

By now you would all have seen the huge improvement within the clubhouse, a number of volunteers and paid trades have worked tirelessly to improve our social areas and hopefully make the club a more welcoming venue for both members and those looking for a venue to hire. Last week we started work on the player’s corridor and changing room floors, with works scheduled to replace the John Merry Lounge boiler and install a new DB electrical board. We have also received news that both Luna Electrical (Luke Hodgson) and YessElectrical Yeovil have come together to replace/repair all outside lighting including pitch floodlights along with updating a number of our internal light fixings. I would like to thank Luke for his continued support and commitment to YRC.

I would also like to say a few words regarding the Club Lottery. This was initially set up to assist with the paying of our land rent and pitch maintenance. At present we have about 95 members regularly taking part, and our aim is to increase this to at least 400 people paying a minimum of £1 a week, paid by standing order. These much needed funds will help us continue with our refurbishment plan and ensure the sustainability of our club through these difficult times. Please see link below.

In closing, I would mention that as a club, we were deeply shocked by the news of the death of Matt Ratana, who was killed in the line of duty on the 25th September. The rugby family is a small one, and I have sent a message of condolence to East Grinstead RFC for whom he was, and I’m sure will remain, an inspirational figure.

Thank you for your support
