England Red Rose and Saracens Women’s Player Marlie Packer has kindly sent out this message to all our members within the Mini and Junior section of the club.
Marlie began her rugby career as a five-year-old here at Yeovil Rugby Club although at the time we were Ivel Barbarians. Marlie played and trained here for 13 years before moving to Bath and then joining Bristol.
Attending school at Birchfield, Buckler’s Mead and Yeovil College, Marlie worked as a plumbing & heating engineer for Homeserve, who she credits with being extremely supportive of her rugby career.
In 2017 Marlie joined the Saracens women’s squad and made an explosive impact, scoring six tries against Worcester Valkyries, and finishing the season as the leagues top try scorer.
A World Cup winner in 2014 and a finalist in 2017, Marlie also featured in the Sevens World Cup in Moscow in 2013.
Marlies message sent for our youth rugby reminds us all of the impact the current national lockdown is having on us all and we hope this gives some encouragement to our younger members.
