Over the last 7 weeks the Yeovil U15’s and U18’s Girls Rugby Players have been back fitness training preparing for the new season. Considering the current situation with COVID 19 and the rules and regulations from the RFU this has proven to be very successful. The girls are averaging above 12 players per session where they have been divided into smaller groups ensuring social distancing and keeping their hands and any equipment sanitised during the sessions. The groups were set up into pods at 3 metre distances between players so the girls can carry out any activity without getting too close to each other.
The first few weeks there was no sharing of any equipment between players and each player was given their own ball to bring to each session. This enabled players to carry out some ball handling control without any contamination from other players.
The players have put a lot of effort into each fitness session while adhering to the guidelines set in place. They have been very disciplined in keeping their distance from each other and at the same time enjoying the company of each other, having some fun and still doing all of this in a controlled environment.
Coach Leslie Medhurst said: “I have been extremely pleased with the way they have shown maturity in dealing with the current climate and they have been an absolute credit to Yeovil Rugby Club.”
